Behind the Mic: Setting Up Our Studio

Creating a professional podcast isn't just about having great conversations—it's about delivering them with broadcast-quality audio and video. Here's what we're building.

The Audio Setup

Microphones

We're using Shure SM7B microphones for both hosts. These are industry-standard broadcast mics that deliver warm, clear audio and excellent noise rejection.

Why the SM7B?

  • Used by major podcasters like Joe Rogan
  • Handles close-mic technique without plosives
  • Minimal room noise pickup
  • Professional sound without excessive post-processing

Audio Interface

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 provides clean preamps and reliable USB connectivity. Simple, professional, and proven.

Monitoring

We're using Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones for real-time monitoring. This lets us catch audio issues during recording, not after.

The Video Setup

Cameras

Dual Sony A6400 cameras with Sigma 16mm f/1.4 lenses give us that cinematic depth-of-field look that separates professional content from webcam recordings.

Lighting

Three-point lighting with Godox SL-60W LED lights ensures consistent, flattering lighting regardless of time of day.

The Room Treatment

Acoustic Panels

We've installed Auralex acoustic foam panels on the walls to control reflections and reduce echo. The goal isn't a dead room—it's a controlled room.

Bass Traps

Corner bass traps handle low-frequency buildup that foam panels can't address.

Why This Matters

You might be thinking, "That's a lot of equipment for a podcast." Here's why we invested:

  1. Respect for Your Time: If you're giving us 45 minutes of your day, we owe you professional-quality content
  2. Guest Experience: Top executives expect professional production
  3. Longevity: This equipment will serve us for years
  4. Credibility: Production quality signals content quality

Coming Soon

Next week we'll share our first test recordings and show you what this setup sounds like. We're also planning a full studio tour video once everything is dialed in.
